Hey gang, anyone know the difference between a V-Type harrness and a Y-type harness? I am reading the 2009 Rule Book under 10:5 Section 19, it says Y-types harrnesses are prohibited. I see V-type harnesses for sale online... what's the difference? Please school me.

Y type are long enough to attach to the floor behind the seat V type meet at the tab and are designed to bolt to a tab on your cross bar...Y type are stitched into a Y ...V's arent.

The "Y" is in reference to a single strap attaching to the cage and then dividing into 2 straps to go around your shoulders and down to your lap belt. The "V" is in reference to 2 straps that attach to the cage separately then go over your shoulders and attach at the lap belt. As far as I read it anyway, if I'm wrong Someone around here will let us know! LOL Joe

So the V-type is legal. I had to move my last set to mount to the crossbar (too long they said) Any ideas on mounting them? Can I weld a tab onto my crossbar or should I stick to the wrap around type? Thanks Guys

Stacey...as part of the upgrades on my car we chose the wrap around type. Not sure if you already have them or not but Joel Gruzen is a good resource for belts and information.

When Mounting your belts refer to the rule book... Shoulder belts should be mounted from level with the shoulders to 4" below. And the attachment point of the crotch strap should be behind the chest line. Many door cars I have teched have this mount too far forward. I usually let them slide with a promise to re attatch it before the next race. or the next time I tech their car. Also don't bolt the mounting tabs flat to the floor. They need to pull straight away from the bolt 90 degrees to the strap. Did that make sense? Hope so!

Got it, thanks, that makes sense. We just got 'em and inside was a picture that descibed what you just said about the bolt and belt positioning (LOL). Unfortunately, I have to exchange them, they shipped the wrong part number, (and yes, I ordered the right part) but at least the turn around is only a few days, we're gettin' ready for Test & Tune this month. What an ordeal this is. I may be takin' my husbands belts out of his car before long.
