At what point are drivers required to wear protective clothing such as Jackets, Gloves, etc.? Probably gonna need to wear them this year for the first time, and I'm looking for suggestions. Car may go in the 10 sec range. Hopefully...... A link to where I could get some info would be great. I guess what I'm asking is, what is a driver required to wear running those ET's and what SFI Specification. Anybody have a preference as to brand? Thanks in advance.

If your car is going to run 10 sec, You better be prepaired to have a drivers suit on. At least a -5.. As for a brand name.. That is strictly up to you..There is some Hi Buck suits and some Budget brands,Your choice. Take a look at the classified section and give Joel Gruzen a call. He has DJ items....Good luck...

For cars running between 10.00 and 11.49 all you need is a fairly inexpensive 3.2A/1 jacket . See the 2009 NHRA rule book page 65 for details . You don't need a full suit until you break that 9 second barrier if you have a full bodied car with un altered firewall

Now that is silly.. If we run our HAMBsters in open wheel,, Full suit buddy. Including neck collar and drivers shoes..And these things are lucky to get into the 13s.. And he can drive a car in the 10s and only needs a cheap jacket. .. What kind of car are you pushing the pedals on. I'll go back in my cave.....

Car is a full body '65 Tempest. Unaltered firewall except for the usual hole here and there for wiring. Hey Eric, if it breaks into the 9's, what else safety wise does the rule book say is required? Just curious.
Thanks.

Wow....Now you are talking about lots of stuff when you go in the 9's or over 135mph . The car needs a full roll cage and an NHRA Chassis cert. a functioning parachute. You will need a competition license - SFI flexplate - SFI - Flexplate shield - balancer - trans shield - You will need a 3.2A-5 drivers suit - gloves - shoes - neck roll - etc...etc.. It gets expensive to go fast You do need some things on the car to go into the 10's as well like aftermarket axles - a trans shield/blanket - Sfi balancer - Check with a tech guy if you need to know exactly what you'll need . Dragster Jeff is a bonafied tech inspector and knows all

I know what you mean D1ck , NHRA says open cars need all that stuff . Us guys with 3000 lbs of steel around us and a firewall don't need all that stuff. You dont even need to wear a helmet in a car that runs slower than 13.99 Now that is silly..

I guess my best bet would be to get an NHRA Rule Book.

Butch, At what point does ANRA or Famoso require a helmet? There are a couple of street cars where I work interested. Ron

13.99 or quicker, you need a helmet. Full bodied car. Check the 2009 rule book pg. 64.
I don't know it all.... But, I know how to read the rule book.
