New 1/8th-mile track planned for Bay area The Agent hears that a group of investors is in the process of developing 255 acres of the old Alameda (Calif.) Naval Air Station. This will consist of an Autocross course, a moto X course, a road course and an eighth-mile drag strip. Reportedly, blueprints are being drawn up right now for the strip and a contractor is being selected to resurface the concrete.
This is directly across the bay from San Francisco, very surprising that they would want to build this considering the enviro-wackos up here in the Bay Area will most likely challenge against it.....we shall see.

Lets hope... It sure would be nice to slow the trend of strips closing. That wouldnt be too bad a tow either. Probably close to sea level.... Anyone local to there with more info? Ron

Ron Ron the proposed location is about an hour north of me. And yes, it is at Sea Level, right on the SF Bay. I'll try and dig up some more info online somewhere.

Here is an aerial photo of the proposed site: Personally I'm skeptical due to all the other rumored and proposed tracks never coming to fruition.

Henry ford once said something like "if you think you can or cant do something, youre probably right..." Einstein:"Unless an idea is absurd, there is no hope for it" Thats the gist, Im too lazy to look up the exact quotes. Unlikely, sure. But prayer might help. Carlsbad had an oak tree instead of a sand trap, why not the pacific ocean? Ron

"enviro-wackos " are going to be the biggest problem there. We cant get track going here with all the available land. They have a small parcel and they going to let CARS on it!

To the contrary, the proposed track in Santa Maria is moving forward nicely. While I don't have intimate knowledge, a call to Steve Foster last week revealed that the city officials are not wanting to wait for the airport people to act any longer, and have looked to purchase a 250 acer lot northwest of town. This will free up some of the issues that there were before.
Could the ANRA have a second track to run on in "09? Time will tell. But I certainly hope so.
