I want to thank everyone that came out to the 2007 Season Opener. We had a good car count and looked to be a good spectator turn out. Jeremy had the track ready at 9:00 a.m. and just about the time we started putting cars down the track, Mother nature raised her head and the winds picked up. The decision to go to 1/8 was made, the main problem was the winds were coming straight down track and we just could not keep dust off it. We watered the sides and washed the return road but could not do anything about the far end. We ran some of the H/R & Sportsman and they got down it OK but tried the gassers and Larry O got a little out of shape and kissed the guard rails, fortunately the damage to the "57" A/Gas Chevy appears to be mostly cosmetic and Larry was not hurt. So for safety we called it. I feel real bad about it, you guys came to race and all I could do was feed you, but we will be at Auto Club Famoso in June and it will be great. We decided to have the 2006 Champions BBQ early and the cooks and several racers jumped in and got to cooking 6 hours sooner than planned and pulled it off. Again, Thank You all, racers, many coming from a long ways off to show there support, crews and spectators and of course the ANRA volunteer staff, without them we could not do it. Thanks Butch

I second what Butch said. It was great to see so many new faces along with all the regulars. The weather was disappointing, but I am hyped about Famoso in June....Thanks to everyone who made it out this time and hope to see you all in June...

To Butch and the entire ANRA staff, A great big thank you! The Barbecue was awesome as usual, and I'm not ashamed to say I went back for seconds! ;D Sure we were a little disappointed that we didn't race, but just hanging out and visiting with and meeting all of the fellow racers was still a blast. Got to meet Skip Spence. Real class act. You can see and hear his passion for nostalgia drag racing in his eyes and voice. Talked with John Gruden a bit and laughed it up about the rear end hanging out of one of the NE-1 cars he had in his pit. I think my buddy "pappa" Dave Walker who was there with his model A put it best: "ya know, that's about as nice a day of racing as you can have with no racing...."

JR:
Thanks for the kind words, it was great talking to you too!
You're right, I do love nostalgia drag racing. I'm glad that it's something I can do with my 4 sons (Scott, Jason, Mark,Tommy), Jason's wife Maria, who video tapes every run, and Justine, Marks girl friend who pretty's up any picture she's in. My youngest (Tommy), who hasn't been to a race since he was a munchkin, was on his way to the track when the race got cancelled (bummer).
"Pappa" Dave was right! Even though we didn't get to race, we got to talk to a LOT of folks who stopped by to look at the cars and ask questions.
See you in Bakersfield!

hey, you can't be too disappointed in no racing that day. how many times have we had great days. when you do outdoor things you are at the mercy of mother nature. i am still always glad we have an organization and a place to race. hey if you don't like the weather in the desert just hang around a bit it will change. great bbq anyway and i got to get away from all my projects and see good friends for a day or two, what's not to like? as i always say, anytime butch goes to so much work to put on an event i'll be there.
