Drag Race in Fresno County Oct 10th

The Eagle Field museum is a privately owned former military base used in WWII that is currently being restored to honor our heroes. To pay for the restoration the owner has an annual Fly-In and has had Hollywood use the facility for movies like Indiana Jones. On October 10th we are going to have our first Car Show and hopefully Drag Race, The Eagle Field Hot Rod Gathering. Eagle Field is 10 miles south of Dos Palos off of Russell (near I-5) and has a 2500' landing strip that would allow us some 1/8 mile racing.
Now before you get too excited I need to clarify a few things. The racing will be heads up instant green or arm drop grudge racing for '65 and earlier Hot Rods, Customs, Stockers and Race Cars. There will be NO track prep as far as the "sticky stuff" and if any awards are to be presented they will be "Peoples Choice". We are considering having some mini-bike drags for (rope) pull start, Briggs & Stratton style (Honda, Tecumseh, etc) old school mini bikes.
The only hold up right now is the cost of insurance which looks to be around $2500, a cost we're covering with raffle ticket sales. The $10 raffle tickets are for a $500 cash prize and will get you in the event. So far we have collected $1700, less the $500 prize we are almost 1/2 way to our goal. Hey Rocky....How involved with Eagle Field are you?.....My brother is a huge supporter of that airfield and buys 4 tables every year for the dinner/dance....good times even though I've only been once.....this year he got off a plane from going to Normandy and made a bee line from SF to Eagle Field to make the dinner. Alot of the vehicles out there belong to my brother. Like I said...great place and glad you guys are keeping it alive.

I only recently became a volunteer this year and with a goal of bringing some drag racing back to Fresno County saw an opportunity. After talking to Joe and the others we're pursuing this event on the 10th. I agree, the place has so much history, an owner with a great deal of passion to save it and a great group of supporters, I just had to get involved. I'll keep you updated, Rocky

This would be awesome!!! My Ex-father in law is pretty involved with Eagle field. Arm drop starts would be so cool, what a great black n white film opportunity. I got to drive a troop transporter out there once, its an awesome place.

IT IS OFFICIAL!!! The insurance quote came in and we got it covered! Drag Racing will return to Fresno county on October 10th so mark your calenders. We are also going to include MINI BIKE DRAGS with rules and length of course still to be determined. The EAGLE FIELD Hot Rod Gathering Drag Races will include HAMB Dragsters. This event will be as close to the early days of drag racing as one can get without a TIME MACHINE! Heads up, Flag start, OLD airstrip, Dirt pits, No sticky on the track and no clocks.
The event is October 10th and Eagle Field 50 miles west of Fresno near I-5. A big THANK YOU goes out to all the people who made this possible!

This JUST IN........an email from a fellow volunteer.......... two "Make and Take" model building events!
"For kids 12 and under. No cost. They get to make a model with the help of my club and take it home. We are going to try and get all car kits to keep with the theme of things. We will provide the kits, and by we I mean The San Joaquin Valley Scale Modelers Club (Tomcats). It should only run a couple hundred to get 40 to 50 kits. We will provide everything, tables etc. I was thinking of setting up around the museum to give some barrier from the races. We will do it from 9:00 to 11:30 and from 12:30 to 4:00."
Jeff and his fellow club members are having two build sessions, one @ 9 am and the second is @ 12:30. Eagle Field volunteers ROCK! Rocky

Schedule
Gate opens at 7am
Museum open 8am to 5pm Closed 11:30 to 12:30 for opening ceremonies
TECH (race car) inspections start at 8am at starting line
Breakfast Served 8am to 11am in Hanger
Food and Refreshment concessions open all day
Raffle Drawn and Drivers meeting on starting line at 11 am
National Anthem at 11:55 @ Starting Line
Racing concludes 5pm SHARP
Class Favorite and HAMB Dragster awards presented @ 5:30 in Hanger
RV Parking starts Friday night 3 to 8pm, Saturday @ 8am and allowed to stay until Sunday
Event Policies and INFO

Eagle Field is a family oriented facility, and we ask that every participant conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. Abusive and/or violent behavior toward any participant, spectator or event staff
WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Violators of the conduct policy will be asked to leave or escorted off the premises.
The Eagle Field Hot Rod Gathering is open to 1965 and earlier vehicles and period Race cars only.
San Joaquin Valley Scale Modelers Club (Tomcats).will be offering two FREE Model Car “Make and Take” events for kids 12 & under, Event times are 9am and 12:30 pm at the Eagle Field Museum near the front gate.
Pre-registration packets available @ Front Gate “WILL CALL”
RACER TECH Cards (race entry) can be purchased at front gate and in tech area.
Breakfast Tickets available in the Hanger
Food and Refreshment concessions will be open all day near the hanger, Refreshments available in the museum and spectator area near starting line all day.
Alcohol will NOT be sold at the event and GLASS containers are not allowed.
Race event will have a run order by class starting with Mini Bike, Stock, Modified, Hot Rod, Gas, HAMB Dragster then Open Competition. Each class will make one run then return to pits, waiting their turn in the run order. PLEASE Be aware of
the class running so you can stage (join your class) when needed. Class staging procedure will be announced at Drivers meeting. Event is a Grudge Race format with round losers coming back to race again until Track is closed. HAMB Dragster is a Ladder elimination class with round losers also coming back. HAMB Dragster winners race winners until there is only one without a loss. HAMB Dragster will have a qualifying session to be
announced at drivers meeting.
Burn-outs (on the track only) are to be done without the aid of Line-Locs or brakes of any kind. We encourage you to do a Smokey burnout, but not stationary. We do not want to tear up the asphalt! In short this is an Event “FOR FUN” PLEASE do not drive over your head! If you start losing control BACK OUT OF IT!
Race Class Awards will be decided by “Crowd Favorite”, Ballots with class categories will be handed out at the gate. Spectators will be asked their favorite car number for each class and the ballots will be totaled up at 4pm. If spectators choose not to participate a panel selected by the Eagle Field staff will choose.
RV camping is DRY, NO Hookups, Tent camping is allowed The water at Eagle Field is NON POTABLE DO NOT DRINK. Open Fires not allowed, please contain your fire to a BBQ, etc. There will be no night lighting, be prepared. ONLY RACERS will be allowed to camp in the pit area with their car if they choose too.
Show Car Parking will begin at 7am with indoor parking allowed to first come, first serve. Outdoor parking will be on a paved surface until there is none left then it is onto the dirt. Indoor cars will be asked to stay parked until they wish to leave, if you plan on racing and showing your car please do not park inside. An area will be set aside for those wishing to show their car and make a run or two. Any car moving during the event is required to do so at an idle, PLEASE save the SPEED, NOISE and Burning Rubber for the track.
NO Golf Carts, Scooters, Mini Bikes, and the like permitted unless towing a Race Car or Participating in an event (Mini Bikes) NO JOY RIDING! ALL operators of MUST BE A LICENSED DRIVER.
Only Drivers 18 and older allowed to participate in the Drag Race event
Restricted Areas are (but not limited to) north, west and east of the Drag Strip, Barracks (across from museum), area east of the pits and behind the hanger. If an event staff member ask you to move from an area please politely agree.

Due to the condition of the edge of the airfield we will only have 18' wide lanes (2 lanes 18' each). Because of this Open Wheel (Roadsters) and others may be required to make single (1 car at a time) runs, please pass this info along to everyone you may know who is attending. HAMB Dragsters WILL run side by side. If the possibility of only making single passes is an issue please contact me for a refund on pre-registered payments. PLEASE keep in mind that this event is FOR FUN and we are trying to move forward with all proceeds going to making improvements at Eagle Field that include 1000' of NEW pavement at the south end, can you say new Drag Strip?
