I have always run flat tappet cams and never had a failure . With lots of spring pressure it's a good Idea to take the innner springs out and break it in with a single spring (if using double or triple springs) . I use Comp Cams cam break in lube and coat all lobes and lifters with it . If it gets hot during break in just shut it off and let it cool down and continue the break in time after it cools down . Use some good oil with zinc or Lucas makes a good zinc additive to use with regular oil . I put about 4 oz. of this stuff in my oil with every oil change . I believe it's not the oil causing the problem with cams going flat - it's the quality of the metals being used today in cams and especially the lifters ( heat treat /anneal process isn't what it used to be) The zinc really helps .......The EPA has helped sell a lot of roller cams!
