The Oct 4th Planning Commission/Board of Supervisors workshop in regards to the Riverside Motorsports Park proposal was interesting to say the least. While the opposition turn out was low at both AM and PM meetings (as were the RMP supporters, although we did outnumber them 5 to 1, or so), they came ready to sling their &%$# irregardless of what documents (over 10,000 pages of EIR) and educated personnel who were giving testimony as to the enormous scope of the environmental research, inspections, and mitigations were brought forth.
You could tell from the panel (commissioner's and supervisor's) that they had pretty much heard the same BS for the last two or three years from these zippos, and that even though they had to legally offer them 5 minutes of pregnant dog time towards the end of the meeting ( AFTER all the research was CAREFULLY AND FULLY EXPLAINED in the first hour and a half) they'd rather be anywhere else but listening to their ignorant, mostly unsubstantiated, ranting.
While the oppo's strategy appears to be trying to drag things out as long as monetarily possible (to the applicant, that being RMP in this instance), they also appear to target new or soon-to-be up for re-election officials. With that being said there were two, or should I say one and a half supervisors that were being caught up in their web of pregnant doges. Their pregnant dog arrow was Noise (Oh how it will effect the mental health of those within THREE miles of the race facilty . SAY WHAT?), and Traffic (My God how will us poor local folks navigate the 24 hour-a-day, street clogging, world stopping, gridlock) and they new at least two of the supers had 2-lane "farm" roads in their districts that would be affected by RMP's building. Funny thing here is that the road's or area's in question HAD ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED IN THE EIR! not less than 30 mins into the meeting. As was the Noise and measures to further mitigate the decibel levels through use of bearms, sound walls, and grandstand engineering. Don't get me started on their comment on how RMP was paying off the EIR and Economic Forecasting companies to pump up or glaze over the results.
Short and sweet, most of the members of the Planning Commission and most of the Board of Supervisors appeared tuned-in, and gave positive comments in regards to all the manhours and expertize that went into the REAL research, and when it came to the oppo's pregnant dog time, they were less enthused, we need to keep that feeling up to and possibly beyond the NOV 14th Final meeting (FINAL no comment audience Board vote will be DEC 12). I'll request once again, IF you can make it, bring as many bodies as you can round up to the NOV 14th meeting, 9 AM or 6 PM. Also, take a moment to e-mail our two suspect supervisors, John Pedrozo: dist1@co.merced.ca.us and Deidre Kelsey: dist4@co.merced.ca.us and emphasize the jobs, education (from the vocational and UC Merced cooperation stand point), and recreation RMP will bring to Merced County. Wouldn't hurt to mention how racers and race fans alike hate traffic, and are extremely courteous when it comes to following track recommended routes of entry and exit.
No matter your HOME track, let's do this in order that we GAIN another track for ALL of us to race at, or at least have as another option.
One down, three to go. Thanks,
Scott Reisdorfer
