From AAA Famoso's home page:
"Due to damage received over the last several weeks, and after conferring with NHRA's structural engineers, the decision has been made to re-pave the asphalt portion of the drag strip. The re-paving will commence as soon as possible as to minimize the down time. Please continue to check the website or call our office at (661) 399-2210 for construction and schedule updates"
I talked to Blake this afternoon, He said the work will start next week, and weather permiting, will be done by the end of April. The Summit races that were canceled due to the M.M. delay will be re-scheduled for later in the year.
John Keigley's Fuel altered event as well as the T-N-T on 4/1 will obviously be canceled.
Please check with the AAA Famoso website or the AAA Famoso forum for updates on progress and the revised schedule.

Update:
I talked to Blake today. He said the grinding up of the old track was just about done. They will have an NHRA engineer check out the base material and try to start the repaving on Mon or Tues weather permitting. They will be using a special National event mix of smaller rocks and less sand with a special oil, the mix will be prepared by Granite. Don Berry const. is doing the work. when they pave the will be using state of the art GPS paving tools to keep things flat and level. The mix they will be using is the same mix they used at Richmond Va, Topeka Ks, The strip at Las Vegas and Pomona.
After the paving is finished they will let it cure for a few days then spend a few days washing the track with the road broom and detergent, before they start putting the rubber down.
If you tuned into SPEENSCENERACING.Com's show tonight you heard that the Top Comp show scheduled for the end of the month has been rescheduled. The first event on the new surface will be the Jr O'Rielly challenge and Div & Jr event The first weekend in May.
Bottom line: AAA Famoso raceway will be one of the best racing surfaces anywhere!

Can't wait to let that George Stirts prepped big block put the power thru that Kern Transmision, and let those M&H's do there thing till I let that Diest Chute bring me to a safe stop at the top end, On that new surface that Don Berry's construction company layed down for us all, at Auto Club Famoso Raceways first SUMMIT track Championship series race May 13th. It can't get here soon enough. Thanks to Diesel Power services for the Chip in my Ford tow vehicle and Ken at Kern transmision for the new clutch to pull my Warrior fifth wheel trailer to the track. Thats 12 coprate mentions in 1 post.... Might be a record. Am I nut'z or what? They give me the mike, they don't give me a script.
