We just returned home to Gilroy from the Vegas race. The following is strictly my opinion and ramblings from the Vegas race. ;D
This was my first time to LVMS and Las Vegas for that matter. The LVMS Strip was awesome! The racing surface and the facility was definitley first class. Now the downside of this race. LVMS/NHRA did a horrible job with their communications on this deal. They kept changing the schedule online and at the track as follows:
Thursday Pre-Reg parking and tech....well there was no tech as stated on their website and pre-reg form. I would've preferred showing up Friday at 4:30'ish for the T&T rather than 3:00 to get teched.
T&T was changed from 3pm to 5pm...no big deal.
Here's the clincher....Sunday eliminations....Hot Rod, D/G, etc... were scheduled to start at 9am, we get to the track and these jokers don't say anything and run another H/R time trial and a "gambler" round and don't even mention or warn us the schedule as been majorly changed! Since we were running Hot Rod, we now went from a 9am start to about 1pm. If we'd have known this I would've enjoyed the nightlife on Sat. Night a little longer and not get my fat butt up at 6am Sun. Morning to get to the track "on time" Sunday morning. They could have had the decency Sunday Morning at 8:30 or 8:45'ish to get on the P.A. and let us know that they changed the schedule, but they didn't.....bad, bad, bad.
I don't want to bash this event but clear communication is huge for me and it didn't happen.
But there were positives as well. I won first round. Seeing some of our ANRA family there in force and meeting new racers, especially my "twin" Carl Cole. Not only do Carl and I have red and white '55 Chevy's, we also wear the same exact Jegs baseball caps and have the same exact red HJC helmets...too weird...LOL! Racing at "The Strip" for the first time and entering under that arch was an awesome experience and overall I'm glad I went to Vegas.
This event also had the other "filler" stuff going on as well which I was told was good for a first time attender to a drag race.
With that said, I appreciate what Butch does for us and doesn't BS us around. That's why I've given of my time and resources to assist him with the website so that there could be clear communication with the ANRA racers.
That's all from me! ;D
