car has a dana 44 but has 20 splines has anybody heard of this can't find anything ?

Something similar. A Dana 60 with 23 spline axles. Big coarse splines. The axle diameter was still pretty big but the splines were something MW wouldn't make axles for. I don't remember what became of it other than it ended up in a Mustang, either at the stock width, or changing out the diff or side gears to run the standard 35 splines. It was quite a while ago. It was the only one I ever saw like that and I used to do quite a few ring and pinion set-ups "back in the day"
I'm sure the one you have is a similar deal, some specialized axle application.
