Hey all looking for opinions here.
My new motor (377 - 12 1/2 - 1 comp)is in the car and we took her out this past Friday at Famoso. Was a bit disappointed in what she ran as I really thought it would have run harder. Best pass was 11.66 @ 112mph. Was wondering about degrees of timing. We currently have it set at 30 degrees with a fixed MSD dizzy. No problems starting, but the motor feels lazy when making the pass. I know it is set a bit rich (carb) but it doesn't want to run without what sounds like a miss when we lean it out. Could it use more advance? The last engine was basically the same set up with less compression and it ran fine with 30 degrees (till it blew up ;D) I'm sure we will tinker with it this weekend and play with the timing and the carb but I am wondering what some of you other racers run for timing. To be fair the motor only has some run in time in my driveway so some of the parts might not be "set" all the way yet but the weak motor that was loosing pressure in two cylinders ran quicker earlier this season so you can see my disappointment.
Thanks Shag

Hey shag i ran 38 degrees in my 383. I would bump the timing up and rejet the carb and see what happens.

36 degrees is almost always a good starting point with a SBC
