Picked up the 1970 Nova Project car. We are trying to keep the cost down to show the kids that they can build a good running safe race car to run High School and Sportsman with out spending a fortune. Lots of good kids coming out of the Jr dragster ranks need a place to race and they are some great racers.
The car looks good and is in the sons body shop with my grand daughter getting ready to shoot primer and quickie paint job we will be doing the paint for real later on, body work has been mostly done with just a little surface rust.
It has a 10 bolt in it now I am thinking a 12 bolt Posi to put under it. This will start out as a foot brake car with a mild 454 and turbo 400 transmission.
We plan on doing a little story on it as the work is being done asking questions and looking for you guys giving ideals as we go a long.
I know of one more Nova that is being built as a family project and I am sure they will jump in and show their progress as we go along. Here's hopping that we can get more racer families interested in doing it with the kids.
Now to start off with any suggestions you have as to rearend? 12 bolt is what I would like to find to start with. Maybe a set of Caltrac's What do you all think? Lets hear you ideals everyone get involved.
Remember parts availably and cost is going to be a big part of this build.

Hey Butch If you don't already have intake manifold I have a Holley single plane Air Gap for oval ports and a Dual plane Edelbrock you can take your pick, Have no need for either one. The Holley WILL accept the BIG Holley carb. I also have several Carter AFB C and D Series core carbs for rebuilding. Let me know if you can use any of this stuff. I think I can scrounge up an electric fuel pump and tach too.

Hey Butch I ran the 8.5" 10 bolt in my 69 Nova and ran down to the 12s I was side slipping the clutch a 6000 RPM & never broke anything till I put 30"X12"X15" on! so if you keep a smaller 28"X 10"X15 or 14" tire on it you could wait on the 12 Bolt Just sayin,,, I know what a Zero Budget is like! LOL

Hi!! We are the other family that picked up a '69 Nova project car.....ours has got a lot more to do to it, we need to cage it first, going with a 10 point because we want to go faster later...maybe D gas? Then we can get down to business! lol We plan on running a 383 stroker with a 400 trans with a trans brake. Hoping for mid 12's right now and want to build a faster engine later. Krystal and I will run the car, and I am sure Jeff will hop in a time or two. I am sure when both Nova's are ready....the kids will have a race-off to see who is tops! Getting a BIG dry erase board for the list of things needed to finish Project Nova......but we are excited!!! Ozzie....we may talk to you about the converter.....Jeff said that would be perfect for what we are doing.

Those Novas can pack a decent sized tire if you widen the factory wheel wells.....I've done probably 20-30 of those over the years.....let me know if you need me to come down and show you how to do it....6 hours worth of work and POOF...bigger tires. Cal-Tracs work awesome......but unless your trying to run 11's or quicker...no need. Call me and I'll tell you how to build cheapie good leaf springs for that car.
